Looking around at my friends, clients and the country at large it seems as if everyone is honkering down and waiting for things to get worse.
Personally I believe it will get a lot worse before it can get better– alot more homes will be foreclosed..

Alot more businesses will close and alot more people will lose their jobs.

NO–I AM NOT TALKING DOOM AND GLOOM HERE

In fact quite the opposite– I believe you can only choose to be a victim. I think my Friend and Success Coach Lee Milteer is the one who coined that phrase.

BUT– Here’s what’s disturbing.
YOU CAN’T WIN BY PLAYING NOT TO LOSE !!!!!

Please take a minute and re-read that- think about it- dwell on it for a few minutes.. really ! It’s that important. SO many have stopped being offensive in their business and personal lives and are now fully ion their foxholes with helmets on waiting for the next attack!

CAN”T WIN THAT WAY!

Do you know that more millionaires were created during the great depression than any time before it. IN every single economic downturn there are new millionaires created.

Now don’t get me wrong! I am not suggesting casting prudence to the wind . But I am suggesting that you keep on your game. Even think about a new one like I have…. and go do it.

WHAT?
For those of you who don’t know me yet ( we just had several hundred new subscribers in the last 30 days) I spent 25 years as an originator, mortgage company owner — trainer- speaker -success coach and consultant.

I don’t need to tell you what’s happening in the mortgage industry right?But I have started a new company to profit from the situation and invest in these defaulted notes..

Over the last 3 weeks we have raised close to 3 million dollars — By being positive- By knowing what we are doing–
BY PLAYING OFFENSE NOT DEFENSE !!!!!

See-  you can’t win by playing not to lose….

I am also in the process of launching a new business in the food /restaurant area.. Sounds crazy I know—

I have no restaurant experience-
I have no ideas how to cook– or even how the equipment works.
BUT -( THINK ABOUT THIS ) I have surrounded myself with oeple who do know!

WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT is that I know how to market… and I know how to get some FREE PR for our business.
It’s a new concept– big in LA — Big in New York and soon to be BIG In MARYLAND…

YUP — I am launching this business in the next 60 days during the worst economic downturn this country has ever seen… and I’ll share the details in future posts… I see it as an 8 figure business in the next 5 years..

SO NOW IT COMES DOWN TO YOU AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING?

Only you know the answer- but if you are playing defense an dhoping NOT to lose– you won’t win.. So just switch the equation..

Scott Brown just won the Mass Senate Seat?  This is not a political statement but there is a lesson… and you can use it in your business.

WHY DID SCOTT BROWN WIN?

I am sure there a lot of reasons but I am NOT going to do a political analysis so relax. But what seems very obvious is

– His opponent took her win for granted.
- She seemed to be out of touch with what the “people” wanted.
- He harnessed the power of what his people wanted and exploited it.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WITH YOUR MARKETING !

1. Never take your clients for granted- too many others are trying to steal them from you — especially now. Give them special discounts for being loyal. Communicate with them regularly by mail and on-line.

2. LISTEN: to what they want and then give it to them the  way they asked for it. DON”T THINK THIS IS TOOOOOOOOO SIMPLE ….

One of the most powerful copywriting and sales strategies is to use your buyers exact words- repeated back to them when offering them your product or service.

3. Create a discussion and controversy around you.. People love controversy.

Years ago I listened to a tape by the great copywriter Gary Halbert

He asked– Would you rather have a starving crowd or the best burger in town.

Of course it’s the starving crowd– and that’s what Scott Brown harnessed.

NOW go see what your crowd is starving for– find it- and offer it to them using their own words to sell it to them..
