Thanks to everyone who recently wrote in their well wishes for my recent health issue. Let me give you the rundown on what happened, the results and what you can learn from the whole experience.
A while ago I went to an ENT doctor because I was a little congested. He did a routine exam and felt a little lump under my jaw on the left side. Gave me antibiotics and told me to come back in 10 days—(Never did find out why I was congested now that I think about it.)
The mass did not go away and he did 3 biopsies With A HUGE NEEDLE. All 3 came back inconclusive. So being a good doctor he set me up with a biopsy where they put you to sleep and also do some sort of ultra sound or something so they can see where they are poking—Had about 5 or 6 of those last Friday .
The good news is I was out when they did it but it still hurts – They had a pathologist there just to make sure they got what they needed this time. Late Friday night the doctor called my wife ( I was still out cold) and told her that the pathologist had gone over the results with him and they were pretty sure it was CANCER!
THIS IS WHERE IT GETS EVEN CRAZIER.
Knowing what it was now meant that they need to find out where it was coming from so they set me up for another “procedure” the following Tuesday. During that procedure they were to do over 20 biopsies of my throat, mouth, nose, voice box etc…
That’s what the picture is all about ( will explain shortly)
To perform these procedures they needed me to get a physical and blood work. The blood work showed issues with my liver ( I am NOT a big drinker so of course we were thinking the worst here) … I did that ultrasound a few days ago and it too came back fine.
NOW BACK TO THE ORIGINAL STORY So as you can imagine my wife and kids are totally FREAKED OUT after all this and the conversation with the doctor Friday night. My next procedure was scheduled for Tuesday ( the 20 biopsies) and late Monday night we get another call from the Doctor.
GUESS WHAT???? The final pathology report has come back and it is NOT cancer. BUT – Don’t get too excited because that is quite common.
HERE IS THE PICTURE – NOT A PRETTY ONE OF ME waiting to get my 20 biopsies done! Warning – Grab your chair – It’s scary !
Don’ t know if you can see it but there are some documents on the side .. They are my new found books that I absolutely LOVE. See most books are 200-300 pages and take a very long time to make a point.
What I found is a program that summarizes the important parts of these books and then gives you the action steps to take based on the ideas of these books. Check it out !
HEY ! STOP LOOKING AT THAT SCARY PICTURE and pay attention here! I have some news to share and a bunch of lessons. Let’s cut to the chase ok? Had the biopsies done. Still recovering ! Sore throat and not able to speak a lot ( wife is happy !)
BOTTOM LINE: We just got the results and I AM FINE – NO CANCER but probably still need surgery to remove whatever the hell that thing in my neck is.
HERE’S WHAT I TOOK AWAY FROM THIS AND YOU CAN TOO !
First- You must have a great support network. I think I have the best wife and kids in the whole world. They stood by me. Took care of me. And gave me encouragement. IF you don’t have a great support network you are doooooomed to fail . PERIOD. This is going to sound harsh … But you MUST IMMEDIATELY GET RID OF THE TOXIC PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE! Yes including family !
One of the big reasons I was able to go from college drop out , 40,000 in debt to a multi millionaire is because my wife and family are great.. If they fought all of my “crazy” ideas I don’t know where I would be.
Second- YOU ARE NOT INVINSCIBLE. I thought I was for all those years. But now in my mid forties I guess I am no longer SUPERMAN. I ‘ve always said I would need a smack in the head to finally stop smoking , eat well and excersise.
I just got back from the gym- Had a very healthy breakfast and am down to 3-4 cigarettes after having smoked 11/2 to 2 packs a day for the past 30 years..
Yeah – I know I need to stop totally but at least I am on the right track and have been for over a month without going back to those horrible BAD HABITS.
THIRD AND MOST IMPORTANTLY – The way you handle challenges will determine your success. Whether that success will be short lived or permanent. I never ever thought I couldn’t beat whatever this was. Maybe I could or maybe I couldn’t But I ALWAYS FELT I COULD. I refocused myself and distracted myself. I tried to figure out the ways to get better no matter what.
Would you be reading business and marketing books before you got operated on and were about to potentially get REALLY REALLY BAD NEWS? Most would just start fearing the worst and go into a major depression …and I could totally understand that if you did.
Instead I went to www.readthemquickly.com and started reading and making notes.
Finally – Even doctors don’t know it all ! Be careful who you listen to and what you do with what you hear. We often OVER REACT prematurely !
Thoughts? Not on the picture but what I have just written. Let me know I would love to hear from you and the lessons I just shared.

PPS- I am really close to launching my new membership site for the mortgage industry and created a 32 page report that has a TON of real world ideas you can use regardless of whatever industry you are in at www.loanofficerformula.com
BIG IDEA: Take what’s working in one industry and apply it to others. This report will be valuable to you regardless of the product or service you offer.
PPPS- While I was recovering I found another really cool tool so I figured I would share it with you here. It’s a site called www.searchme.com
What’s cool about it that when you type in what you are searching for it takes you right to the sites themselves – no clicking on each one like google or yahoo…
Go check it out and you will see what I mean- It’ll save you a ton of time !

Hi Brian,
Sorry to hear about your ’scare’ but glad everything has turned out ok for now. I know exactly what you mean about ‘toxic’ people. For as long as I can remember I have been surrounded by people, including family, that have been telling me that what I wanted out of life was not possible because people like us don’t get that sort of thing. My wife & I have just split up, hopefully only a temporary thing, due to constant arguing over my ideas and plans. She has a few ‘close’ friends who’s idea of getting on in life is to get from pay day to pay day. I have been trying to tell her that these people are stoppping both her and us from getting the things that we want in life. Unfortunately, she took what I suppose is looked at as the easy way out and decided that their way was best. The positive side of this is that I can spend the next few weeks/months dedicating myself to my goals and hopefully prove to her that my way is the correct one.
Keep up the good work.
Regards,
Jim White

I am so proud of the attitude you have here..
It is CRITICAL
Don’t know if you have seen the PHENOMENON yet
but it is all about people who also “weren’t supposed” to succeed
and have beyond everyone’s wildest dreams..
If you have it you should watch it several times and try to implement the “triggers ” like I have.. So I know anyone can !
IF you haven’t you should … it will keep you grounded and focused even during this tough time…check out the video on the top right of this page.

All the best

Hi Brian,
Glad that your doing better and that it wasn’t cancer after all. My family and I have been praying for you. I’m glad everyone was able to help you out during this crazy ordeal too. 20 biopsies…. sheesh, that’s nuts. I’m also a little surprised (but glad) that they told you it was cancer so quickly, and then, after further tests, reversed that call. That’s kinda a big thing you want to get right on the first try.
I think I found your third point the most interesting, “the way you handle challenges will determine your success.” During the church retreat I took a few weekends back, we were talking about Intentional Living. Our speakers were Brian Watts, Minister of Young Adults, and Michael Watts, entrepeneur and owner of Bel Air Construction. They challenged us that if we were truly intentional about our lives, then it would show in our actions and our goals. Michael gave us questionnaires that asked us to list our goals and our values. He also told us to pick a goal or two and expand on it, list what prevents us from reaching those goals, and what we were going to do this year to get closer to achieving it. Your points reminded me of that and how badly I need to sit down and give that some serious thought.
Hope you continue to get better fast. Good luck with the surgery coming up. We’ll keep that in prayer too.

Brian;
Am just finding out all of the details surrounding your most recent health scare. Glad to see that it doesn’t appear to be the “big C” and that you are employing good health moves in your life. I’ve known you as a personal friend and colleague for about 22 years…….a long run my friend. I’ve seen and been part of your successes and all of the crazy times. Remember the dinners when you had the cell phone glued to the side of your head and we spoke when we could get a chance? I’m so totally impressed by your pursuit of a better way, a more fulfilling life and time to enjoy your family and friends. I’m looking forward to all of your continued inspirations and ideas………your friendship has been a gift……..and I hope others can learn and benefit from all you have done. Keep on trucking!
I wish you and your family the best possible outcome! Keep your head up!
