WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM A STEAK SUB?

Strange title huh? This past weekend my family and I went to the beach or as it is called in New Jersey -The Shore. Not really good weather for the beach but we had a great time anyway. One of our favorite things to do when at the Jersey Shore is to stop at the White House for a sub/hoagie sandwich.

Now this place is by no means fancy. In fact it is downright dingy and not in a great area of town. You would probably drive right by it were it not for the unmistakenly  long line of people wrapped all the way around this building.

WHY?

This place has great food… Probably the best subs  you will ever eat anywhere. In fact many famous athletes, movie stars and entertainers have been there and have signed photos all along the wall. Many like Bill Cosby and the late Frank Sinatra have actually had these subs flown to them when they are not in town. If you are ever in Atlantic City you need to go there. When you first walk you will see the first table which is reserved for the Governor.

What’s crazy is that there are only 6 or 7 tables in the whole place … Hence the long line all the way around the building. By the way – we have gone to this place in all seasons and the line is the same whether it is raining , a blizzard or 100 degrees outside.  And that is the second reason why this place is so busy. They have what is known as “Social Proof” Meaning that the line itself is proof of how good this place is. The question you need to pose is:

A) Is what you offer so good that people will wait for it? AND – do you get testimonials from satisfied customers , Thereby offering even more social proof like they do with all of the famous people on the wall.

B) Can you create “scarcity”? — They do this by only having 7 small tables even though they have had many opportunities to enlarge their business location over the years.

One of the strangest things about this place is that they do ZERO advertising. They don’t need to. See they have created a great demand than they have a supply of. This is the key to success in every business or practice.

So you see there is a lot to learn from a simple steak sub. Whenever you see a successful business pay attention. Then take what you have learned  and apply it to your business or practice.
