MY SONS TRIP TO THE HOSPITAL
Last Sunday my 14 year old son Matt wasn’t feeling well. He had been complaining of a headache for a few day but we thought it was just a flu or a cold. Since it wasn’t getting any better we decided to call the doctor who suggested taking him to the hospital emergency room just to get it all checked out.
We got him up and dressed but he didn’t look good. As we were helping him down the stairs he passed out. I mean really passed out. His eyes rolled into the back of his head and he was not responsive. Naturally we called 911 and an ambulance quickly arrived.
After getting him stable they told us they were taking him to Sinai hospital.
THIS WAS NOT THE CLOSEST HOSPITAL NOR THE ONE WE INTENDED TO TAKE HIM TO!
Before we discuss the WHY of this let me first tell you that he is totally fine. He was a bit dehypdrated but is totally ok. He passed out due to the dehypdration. So why did they take him to that hospital farther away from our home and ….
WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME AND YOU?
The reason they took him to that particular hospital is because they are known for having the best pediatric care around town. Seems strange that my 6 foot 1 kid with a 14 shoe is pediatric but he is. Now let ‘s just take a step back and pull all of this together.
THE LESSON HERE IS…. That everyone knows that this hospital is the “GO TO “ place when children are involved. Much like I need to be perceived as the “GO TO “ person when a senior needs a REVERSE MORTGAGE and you need to be seen as the “GO TO” person for what you do.
HERE ARE A FEW WAYS THAT MIGHT HELP. Before I list them though , let me just say that you can’t do all of these. Try a few at first. But more importantly – You can not be a fake “GO TO “person. You must be an expert and you must produce good results.
- Write articles for your local publications on the topic of Senior Challenges and how a Reverse Mortgage might help resolve the problem.
- Be a guest on a local tv show.
- Be a guest on a local radio show dealing with financial or senior related issues.
- Write a book. It’s not as hard as you think. In fact we have helped hundreds of originators create their own books and radio shows.
- Be active in the community.
- Get to know accountants , attorneys, financial planners, care givers and others in town. Meet with them and tell them what you do. BOTTOM LINE IS FIND REFERRAL SOURCES !!!!
If you sell a product—who sells a complimentary product???? - Create and post to your own blog.
- Have an informational website – with good –up to date , information.
- Contact your local media and have them do articles on you and your program. A good hook right now for me might be the new HECM SAVER program. Maybe a story on how you helped one of your clients with the program who was really in jeopardy. What is the “Hook” for what you do?
- Offer to speak at local institutions and to various groups.
There are numerous other ways to be seen as the obvious “GO TO “ person. But the point we want you to take away from this article is that you need to be and be seen as the obvious “GO TO “ person just like our local hospital is when it comes to pediatric cases.
