This morning I opened the paper– MORE BAD NEWS– More layoffs- more talk of a double dip recession -BUT this is not about bad news—

INSTEAD IT”S ABOUT CHOICES– THE IMPORTANT ONES !! so read on.

My thought and experience here is pretty simple so I won’t be long winded.

YOUR CHOICE IS TO CUT BACK  OR Decide to earn more!!!

Let’s be real- there is only so much you can cut back on. What’s more important though is that it creates a mentality of fear and always being on the defense.
INSTEAD– think of ways to earn more ! YES -even now — maybe especially now. That is successful thinking and what creates wealth.

During the great depression – and during our recessions every decade ( yes they are predictable) some people become very wealthy!
WAIT !

I just realized this may be sounding like a set up for a sales letter BUT I HAVE NOTHING to sell you here– just some good advice from my hard experiences.

So start thinking about how to add some revenue streams- Think outside your comfort level! The most successful people simply made a decision to be successful — then created a plan– than worked it until it happened.

A pretty simple recipe huh?

Now go do it !

Looking around at my friends, clients and the country at large it seems as if everyone is honkering down and waiting for things to get worse.
Personally I believe it will get a lot worse before it can get better– alot more homes will be foreclosed..

Alot more businesses will close and alot more people will lose their jobs.

NO–I AM NOT TALKING DOOM AND GLOOM HERE

In fact quite the opposite– I believe you can only choose to be a victim. I think my Friend and Success Coach Lee Milteer is the one who coined that phrase.

BUT– Here’s what’s disturbing.

Please take a minute and re-read that- think about it- dwell on it for a few minutes.. really ! It’s that important. SO many have stopped being offensive in their business and personal lives and are now fully ion their foxholes with helmets on waiting for the next attack!

Do you know that more millionaires were created during the great depression than any time before it. IN every single economic downturn there are new millionaires created.

Now don’t get me wrong! I am not suggesting casting prudence to the wind . But I am suggesting that you keep on your game. Even think about a new one like I have…. and go do it.

Look at the two lists and see if what you are doing is consistent with getting you to your goals..

So be consistent- each day do something that will get you closer.

FOR EXAMPLE- I just found out that one of my businesses is inconistent with the lifestyle I want to lead ( alot of foreign travel) so I am closing the business.

Let me explain- We all have many legitimate excuses that are holding us back and we also have alot of “self-created” excuses.

BUT EITHER WAY YOU MUST BREAK THROUGH THEM

if you want to succeed..

So really — STOP- RIGHT NOW- write them down and start really thinking about them. You’ll find most are really just made up but the ones that aren’t — the ones that are real are still able to be overcome :
Notice I didn’t say it was easy !

But it can be done and you must..

Not born wealthy? Find people who are and convince them to back you.

NOt educated- go ahead and learn- I graduated high school- barely

But I have a library worth several hundred thousand dollars.!

Make it your priority to tackle these obstacles one at a time and you will start seeing real progress – just as I have and many of my top sutdents have. In fact I just listened to a cd on motivation from a guy who doesn’t speak well — guess he overcame his issues because he has sold millions of his programs.

For the last 2 days I have been meeting with my Platinum Group here in Baltimore. These are 2 full days of profit producing ideas and discoveries. Much like Napleon Hill spells out in Think and Grow Rich. Everyone shares ideas that are working. Everyone helps each other with their challanges.

If you are not in a mastermind group – you should be. I have found it to be the biggest shortcut to actually achieving what you want – quickly.

So let me share with you 2 big ideas that have come out of the last 2 days and hopefully you’ll start using them too!

FIRST- We talked for an entire day about 1 big concept- What separates people who want to succeed from the ones that are actually achieving. Interesting question isn’t it.
<strong>THE WORD IS OBSESSION ! </strong>Write that one down in big bold letters!
- When you are Obsessed- nothing can distract you
- When you are Obsessed- not knowing how to do something doesn’t really matter does it? You just go out and find the answers and get working and discover them.
- When you are obessed- failure isn’t an option
- When you are Obessed- you are literally living and breathing your obsession 24/7
- When you are Obsessed- Nothing can distract you and nothing will stop you from getting there

Now think about yourself- Do you want to succeed? Of course you do. But do you really?
Are you OBSESSED with it? Do you think about it constantly.

Let’s be honest- The last few years in our mortgage industry would upset even the most success minded positive person. But being obsessed with your goal still keeps you in the game- It keeps you from leaving – It keeps you up and working.

This is also true of most industries out  there right now not just the real-estate mortgage industry . I don’t have the room to list them all– but more and more are getting “creamed” each and every day.

My obsession right now is sharing the test ideas and strategies I know and use with other driven originators and company owners around the country. Today is my 20th anniversary. Man am I blessed. Great wife – great kids. But you know me – I knew there was a marketing lesson in here somewhere.

READY?

Looking back over our 20 years I gotta say my wife is an absolute Saint. We went from really poor – trying to pay 600 a month in rent when we got married to some moderate success. Than back to struggling than some more success until finally we are doing well.

It’s not easy ! She has a backround in counseling and used to work in a psychiatric hosptial which is why I believe she has the skill set to deal with  a manic ADD Entrepneur.

Through all the ups and downs she has been there encouraging me. Not an easy thing to do.

HERE ARE SOME TAKEAWAYS

1. Like our past President George Bush said – You are either with me or against me??  If your spouse is not in your corner- you are in real big trouble. ( sorry)

2. Anything worth having is worth working for. Has it always been bliss for us -NO WAY but she has taught me to work at things and improve.. ( that was not my MO when we met- I was a my way or the highway kinda person *** still am but getting better)
I believe this is the reason many people fail- they don’t see instant success and so they go on to the next “Thing”

I had a conversation yesterday with a coaching client that reminded me of a conversation I had with my wife Sherri years ago. At the time we were struggling.

Actually – truth be told we were already interviewing bankruptcy attorneys. Things were bad. We had fixed expenses like my son’s tuition for a special school ( he’ dyslexic) of about 25000 a year, my mother in a nursing home 49,000 per year and all of this before our normal living expenses like food , mortgage, etc.

My wife ( she’s terrific) started going on a mission to cut expenses. Very normal right? That’s what most people are doing right now.

ALL THE NEWS TALKS ABOUT ARE THE THINGS PEOPLE ARE CUTTING BACK ON !

Our problem- and maybe yours – is different. Even if we moved- stopped eating, bathing etc. we still didnot have enough coming in!

REDEFINE THE PROBLEM-

We needed more income! PERIOD!

So I set about learning how to generate more business and start creating other streams of income. I learned all about direct response marketing, wealth creation and persuasion .

My income started to increase. Then I learned all about information marketing and again the income shot up!

LET”S STEP BACK HERE FOR A MINUTE…

I had to invest in my education . I had to borrow on credit cards , home equity lines etc. I was scared out of mind … at first.

MY FEELINGS WERE!

I am already near bankruptcy so what’s the difference? If I do nothing I will go bankrupt. If I try things and I fail – I will go bankrupt.

BUT IF I DO SUCCEED.. it will change my situation and my life. That’s exactlywhat happened.
Most people don’t have the courage to do this.  I am not judging here!

I truly had the feeling deep down that I was going to get where I wanted to and that I would see obstacles as bumps not brick walls.

NOW GO AHEAD AND LEAVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS

A few months back my wife and I went to New York to see a Broadway play. Now anyone who knows me knows that this was purely an act of love on my part since I can’t sit thru plays. I find most to be really really boring and I snore very loudly .

NOT GOOD !

But this play was different . AVENUE Z is the name of this play and I would encourage you to go see it if you ever get a chance. So what’s this got to do with your mindset?

THE KEY THEME IN THIS PLAY WAS…

It sucks to be me! Well that statement woke me up! I grabbed a pad and pen and started making notes .( lesson- always carry a 3 X 5 card or small pad with a pen so when you get those flashes of inspiration or brilliance you can capture it)

A lot of people I come in contact with have this “It sucks to be me” mentality. Honestly I have very very little patience for it. But there is a major theme here that I would like to discuss with you.

Whenever you start feeling that OH POOR ME feeling grab a piece of paper and go to a quiet place and start writing and thinking about the WHY ! What is causing you to feel that way?

Sometimes you may need to find out WHO is making you feel this way. Here’s a thought I want /need you to burn into your brain.

YOU ONLY GET WHAT YOU ACCEPT!!!!

Here’s another one. It’s one I have been using a lot lately trying to get the www.loanofficerformula.com site and community launched.

AN EXCUSE IS AN EXCUSE WHETHER IT’S VALID OR NOT IS IRRELEVANT!

I mention this because GOOD THINGS happen when you finally take control and eliminate all excuses! Most big inventions that have improved our daily lives have come about because of this thinking!

Stop allowing real or imagined excuses stop you ! Really!

When you are 100 % focused on achieving a goal you must have that feeling of NOTHING and NOONE will STOP ME ! Yes there are legitimate excuses but you don’t have to accept them. ( please read that again! One more time!)

For every reason that may stop you there is always a solution. But most simply view it as a brick wall instead a small speed bump!

Go ahead right now and start thinking about what’s holding you back and why it might “suck “ to be you.

The market sucks- Maybe it’s your marketing? My coaching and consulting clients are doing just fine.

The Economy Sucks- Yes- but that is also a great opportunity. First there will be less competition. Second- People still buy! You don’t HAVE TO participate in the meltdown!

I could write an entire book about all of the people who have become seriously wealthy during these types of economic meltdowns but this is a thought you are either with me on or not!

Just got back from my doctors office and surgery is scheduled of march 10 10. So let me catch you up if you are new and updates since my last post.

THERE ARE MANY MANY LESSONS HERE !

A few months ago I went to the doctor because I was congested and he found a small lump on my neck- barely noticeable. He gave me anti-bioitcs and it did NOT go away.

So he performed some biopsies ( THAT REALL HURT) and they came back inconclusive. Then more of these biopsies in a hospital where I was put to sleep..

We were told that preliminarily they looked like cancer but that we wouldn’t have the full results until the next week. Needless to say this was a BAD WEEKEND for my family. My outlook was remarkably good. In fact I was ready to deal with whatever hand I was dealt.

Since this came back bad they scheduled me for the following Tuesday to have 20-30 biopsies of my head, neck, throat etc to see where the cancer might be coming from.

Monday the doctor called to say the result was negative and to move this story along a little — all 20 or 30 biopsies came back negative too !

PRETTY GOOD HUH?

Went back for a follow up and the doctor said that this thing shoudl come out regardless. My wife Sherri than decided to find a specialist at University of Maryland Hospital.

That was 3 weeks ago – He is a head and neck cancer specialist. Went to see him and waited about an hour and a half in a packed waiting room. I don’t wait well!!!!  He told me that although all those tests came back negaive that it really didn’t mean anything so he sent me for more tests..

A pet scan – an MRI a sonogram and some blood tests. All cam back negative for cancer.

WAIT– WE’RE NOT DONE YET!

Just went to see him and he told me he still doesn’t like the way this thing feels and looks and it still could be cancer !

WOW! WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER ! I won’t be able to tell you the answer until march 11! and he won’t know until he gets in there.

NOW – LET”S TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED TO LEARN FROM THIS !

1. My personal feelings on all this has been very positive. Hoinestly I am too busy to get upset. I am ready — The only frustration is NOT KNOWING!

2. This guy is a specialist. He is not easy to get to. Unlike my internist or the ear nose and throat guy who found it. This guy is one of a handlful of experts in the whole country in this area.

3. I didn’t shop him — I don’t even know what he charges. All I know is that I have a problem and he can fix it. Now – how do you apply that to your business? Do you solve a problem or are you a “head of lettuce” who is trying to be all things to all people.

4. I was NOT Referred to him. My wife went on-line and foudn the top guy . Can your clients find you on-line. Are you postioned as an expert when they do?

5. He didn’t pick up the phone when I called. NO EXPERT picks up their own phone- They are hard to get to and you must make your clients feel that way too !

BOTTOM LINE : What I am trying to tell you here are 2 different things. Both are equally important! Ready?

First- How you handle issues mentally will determine the outcomes!

Second- You must be seen as an expert! period! It can not be about costs or price — you can NEVER EVER WIN THAT BATTLE.

Indentify a problem and make yourself the solution. I know it sounds counter intuitive- but if you are trying to be everything to everyone than you wind up being a nothing to noone!

He’s been in the news alot lately because of his missteps.

The most recent photo of him smoking from a BONG is a bit disturbing. But it’s not his first run in and I am sure it won’t be his last.

HOW CAN I BE SO SURE? Keep reading!

A while ago he was arrested for drunk driving. Everyone pretty much Forgave him since he was such a great athlete.

But here he is again back in trouble for doing something STUPID with strangers in the room.

HE’LL DO IT AGAIN!

Have you ever seen a person do really well– way above expectations. Better than they thought they could do and better than anyone else thought they were capable of.

Ever seen lottery winners – I mean the BIG ONES – Millions of

Dollars

go ahead and just blow it all. The ones who were working minimum

wage jobs and now have 10,000,000 after taxes.

It is all related to what I call the RUBBER BAND EFFECT !

That means that if you have a vision of yourself at a certain level

and you exceed it or even fall below it you will snap yourself

back to that place where you see yourself. Confusing?

If you are below your expectations of where you see yourself

you’ll work very hard to get to that point. If you have overshot

where you see yourself ( your self-image) you will snap right

back like a rubber band.

This is all covered in great detail in a book called Psycho- Cybernetics

This is one of the most important books you’ll ever read . In fact I giftto all of my high level coaching and consulting clients.

WHY?

Simple– When they apply what I teach – they WILL succeed . PERIOD!

It’s happened to hundreds over the past 5 years.

BUT If the are NOT in sync mentally they will destroy it.

Now take a look at where you are and if you are not in sync…you
