Looking around at my friends, clients and the country at large it seems as if everyone is honkering down and waiting for things to get worse.
Personally I believe it will get a lot worse before it can get better– alot more homes will be foreclosed..

Alot more businesses will close and alot more people will lose their jobs.

NO–I AM NOT TALKING DOOM AND GLOOM HERE

In fact quite the opposite– I believe you can only choose to be a victim. I think my Friend and Success Coach Lee Milteer is the one who coined that phrase.

BUT– Here’s what’s disturbing.
YOU CAN’T WIN BY PLAYING NOT TO LOSE !!!!!

Please take a minute and re-read that- think about it- dwell on it for a few minutes.. really ! It’s that important. SO many have stopped being offensive in their business and personal lives and are now fully ion their foxholes with helmets on waiting for the next attack!

CAN”T WIN THAT WAY!

Do you know that more millionaires were created during the great depression than any time before it. IN every single economic downturn there are new millionaires created.

Now don’t get me wrong! I am not suggesting casting prudence to the wind . But I am suggesting that you keep on your game. Even think about a new one like I have…. and go do it.

WHAT?
For those of you who don’t know me yet ( we just had several hundred new subscribers in the last 30 days) I spent 25 years as an originator, mortgage company owner — trainer- speaker -success coach and consultant.

I don’t need to tell you what’s happening in the mortgage industry right?But I have started a new company to profit from the situation and invest in these defaulted notes..

Over the last 3 weeks we have raised close to 3 million dollars — By being positive- By knowing what we are doing–
BY PLAYING OFFENSE NOT DEFENSE !!!!!

See-  you can’t win by playing not to lose….

I am also in the process of launching a new business in the food /restaurant area.. Sounds crazy I know—

I have no restaurant experience-
I have no ideas how to cook– or even how the equipment works.
BUT -( THINK ABOUT THIS ) I have surrounded myself with oeple who do know!

WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT is that I know how to market… and I know how to get some FREE PR for our business.
It’s a new concept– big in LA — Big in New York and soon to be BIG In MARYLAND…

YUP — I am launching this business in the next 60 days during the worst economic downturn this country has ever seen… and I’ll share the details in future posts… I see it as an 8 figure business in the next 5 years..

SO NOW IT COMES DOWN TO YOU AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING?

Do you say it enough? Most of us don’t. No — this is not some thanksgiving message. But saying THANKS is really important … especially for sales.

SAY THANKS WHEN:
- Some buys from you.
-Someone doesn’t buy from you.
-Someone hasn’t bought from you in a while.

This is really important to understand on a few different levels.

First- it’s just the right thing to do.. Most of us take our customers for granted which is a big mistake. Especially NOW!

Aside from the obvious reason so you can stay in touch.. Why not tell your previous customers that you miss them.. EVEN give them an incentive for coming back.

And those people who don’t buy from you this time… What about them. Why not take a second and thank them for the opportunity and stay in touch with them.

During my career as an originator I can’t tell you how many Realotrs told me to get lost… But I just kept thanking them and returning agian and again.  GUESS WHAT– I earned most of their business.

WHY?
Some just admired my persistence. Others just weren’t ready for me yet… The person they were using was just fine.. UNTIL that one day when that person messed up and there I was ready to earn their business.

Don’t be fooled by thinking this is just important for a service business. IT applies to all businesses.

People say to me all the time “you didn’t have to do that”

MY RESPONSE IS ALWAYS THE SAME– “Yup- you’re right . I didnot have to do that- but isn’t that what makes it special….”

Now STOP and THINK about how you can start using this idea. TODAY !!! in your business to generate more sales..IN fact you might even want to stop what you are doing and make that list and buy the cards and stamps so you can have them out before the end of the week.

Today I woke up and started reflecting on this year. Only 31 days left. This year has seemed to drag on for me with an endless set of challanges.

1. The mortgage Business certianly isn’t what it was .
2. I am now in litigation with 2 ex partners one of whom I believe is a true scumbag but used to consider a close friend.
3. The business I sold for 7 figures back in 2006 was given back to me destroyed and in tremendous debt.
4. I have had medical scare after medical scare only to be found out in the end to be totally fine.
5. 2 Other partnerships are in a state of diarray and have the other partners scarmbling like roaches on the floor when the lights get turned on.

SO THESE ARE CHALLANGING TIMES…. NO DOUBT!

But this has also been a great year in many respects.
1. Great wife ! no need to say anymore on that one !
2. My son got bar mitzvahed and is certianly a true teenager now
3. My daughter started driving and is now looking at colleges

This all got me to thinking about you my loyal subscribers. How are you doing? How are you mentally and financially weathering this mess?

LET ME SHARE A FEW IDEAS HERE WITH YOU

Never Dwell On Your Problems- Start Immediately thinking about what your plan B’s are.  For me – I am now investing in defaulted mortgage notes and trying to turn the HUGE MORTGAGE MESS into lemonade.

ALWAYS RECREATE- I am now putting the foundations into place for what I believe to be a very very successful opportunity. It is in a field I know nothing about- have never done.
AND THAT’S WHAT is exciting for me- Never allow yourself to be pigeonholed. Think Outside The Box- I know ! sounds very cliche right?
Well it is and it is also true! Expand your horizons.

Today I am ( hope ) middle aged.. With people living to 90. If you are trying to do the math– it’s 45!

Old to some — young to others. But the bottom line is that I committed to myself when 20 years old that I would be a millionaire by 40! And I did it . At least on paper.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM AGE 20 -45?
Now that  I am older I have learned a few things-
I know what it’s like to earn a million in a weekend.
I know what it’s like to be dead broke.
I know what it’s like to “chill”
I know what  it’s like to work 24/7/365
and I now know what it’s like to be poor- rich -then poor again then rich again.

SO where is all this blabbering pointing?

Well – Being rich , I now realize is NOT all about just money – Yeah I know very cliche.

But here are my thoughts. Being a millonaire is great – beats being broke for sure. But it’s not enough.

TRULY BEING RICH means being able to do what you want to do – whenever you want to do it… PERIOD>

Getting up to go to work because YOU WANT TO … not have to.

CONFESSION ! – I am not there yet – was close but now this recession has sent me back a bit. But I am now smarter!

HERE IS THE BIG LESSON : make sure you are always asking yourself the RIGHT QUESTIONS and always make sure your goals are correct.

For me being a millionaire was the WRONG GOAL!  Because it still does not allow me to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
In fact – I don’t really need 1million dollars do I?

I just need ________ amount of money coming in each and every month consistenly – and predictably . Work I can do once – systems I can put in place once.

I have several real-estate partnerships that I worked really hard to set up that just send me quarterly checks now — Pretty cool HUH!

So go ahead and make sure you are asking yourself the right questions! and have the correct goals. DON’T ASSUME like I DID!

I just got back from a 4 day meeting in San Francisco. Man was it cold! I came across a scenario that is kinda under the radar right now. As you may know I have spent 25 years in the Real-Estate /Mortgage business and I don’t need to tell you what this meltdown has done to the business.

I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL REVENUE SOURCES and you should be too. This one is a doooozy and I’m really excited about it.

A FEW LESSONS AND A QUESTION.

First the lesson- When you get lemons you need to make lemonade. Most will say “WOO IS ME”  or “I hope things get better” ( hope is NOT a strategy – you’ve got to make it happen) or “This industry stinks” and then do nothing to make things better.

Maybe it’s mental paralysis. Maybe it’s just human nature. Either way – you can’t move forward if you are mentally paralyzed. So if this describes you– SNAP OUT OF IT AND GET GOING!

One of the biggest mistakes I see marketers make is building something and then “hoping” that it will sell. Doesn’t matter if it’s a service or a physical item.

Car makers -especially make this mistake but so did COKE ( remember coke classic and the new coke)

So here’s the lesson. MONEY IS MADE GIVING PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!

Not what you want-

Not what you think they want-

No even what they really need !

Just what they want.

So please take a minute and tell me what you want?

My thought is to allow the most serious- success minded subscribers to  get what they want – maybe in a membership community where I would actually do telseminars- webinars – and maybe even share more resources than i can on this blog?
